Company founder Gonkuro Kume, believed that architecture is the integration of technology and design, and created spaces designed as expressions of a quality lifestyle. He developed an original style that harmonizes traditional Japanese concepts of space with modern architecture.
Mr. Kume established Kume Sekkei Co., Ltd. as a design organization in which architects and engineers join forces and share responsibility for architectural works. The company grew under the leadership of then-president Masuki Nagai, designing an array of award-winning architecture that earned accolades from society at large. Another former president, Kiyoshi Sakurai, pursued the dual themes of progressive architectural works and the sincerity of the architects themselves. He defined architecture as the creation of environments, and put his views into practice.
The architecture of the 21st century goes further, seeking to establish healthy living spaces for the people within them. As the definition of architecture expands, the Kume Sekkei philosophy - passed down over the generations - continues to evolve. We have begun building the new Kume brand, encompassing architectural planning, design, and consulting within the context of managing entire living environments. Thus, we are working to become a truly integrated design solution provider. As Kume Sekkei grows into the future, we will continue to encourage and respect the talent of everyone who contributes. |
