Beijing Olympic Hotel shares its site with the Capital Gymnasium, located just across the street from the Beijing National Library. The architecture is defined by a grand atrium, towering more than 40 meters through the hotel center, surrounded by 332 guest rooms in a simple square layout. The passageways from the atrium to each room are partially protected by shoji-style sliding doors of opaque safety glass, serving to ease the psychological jitters some people experience when they feel exposed at great heights, while also unifying the hotel color scheme in a milky tone. The exterior design achieves an ever-clean look by incorporating a self-cleaning tile system in the precast external wall panels.
