Located in Nagasaki Peace Park, the Centre's architecture is designed to blend in with the park environment, with some 80% of the building's total floor area buried underground, and the top of the structure covered by lush greenery. Skylights introduce natural daylight to display rooms that house artifacts recounting the atomic bombing of the city. Thus, the light of the heavens serves to more sharply imprint the powerful message of Nagasaki.
