Chuo University's Tama Campus consists of outdoor facilities and numerous large buildings with a total floor area of 180,000 square meters, spanning an approximately 50 hectare site. With the addition of the Faculty of Policy Studies in 1992, the Tama campus now hosts five of the university's departments, and is home to approximately 20,000 students and staff. It is characterized by the dynamic balance of its landscape design, with the cluster of white buildings amidst the campus greenery at once setting off and enhancing the beauty of the grounds. The Tama campus is also outstanding for the simplicity of its overall structure, which concentrates a diversity of facilities into a network, surrounded by open space and ringed with a multi-tiered pedestrian deck. This elevated deck is continuous and open, like the communication that the campus was designed to facilitate.
